Be sure to keep your operating system software and anti-malware software updated!    Don't visit sites on the internet that you don't need to use     Avoid porn (just say no)     Avoid P2P (sharing) sites - if stuff is free and shouldn't be then you should be nervous     Avoid Messenger programs - talk on the telephone     Don't open email from people you don't know     Don't open email from people you don't want to know     Don't open attachments unless you know who sent them (and even then only with a good AV running)     Never turn off your AV or Firewall.  If a program requires them off, don't use that software     Run regular AV and Spyware scans (at least twice a week)     Never answer YES to a pop-up from a program not already installed on your computer telling you that you have a virus or spyware and offers to clean it for you       Don't let anyone else use your computer (well, maybe your family, but NOBODY else)      See how simple that was?

Get to Know Your EULA:

A EULA (End User License Agreement) is that notice that pop's up when you install software that ends with AGREE or DISAGREE check boxes.  This notice tells you what this software is about to do to you, and often tells you that they might be installing software to monitor how you use their software.  We call this SPYWARE, and if you say YES, they can legally install it.  Next time you install something, actually read the WULA before installing the software.  You may be surprised.

We could go on forever so I will stop here.  For more detailed information I recommend a site called SpywareGuide.com,
which is a major public site for spyware research and information.
